Courtney is a bright eighth grader who just turned fourteen, who is articulate, deep thinking, and creative. When asked about careers, Courtney has lots of great ideas, and she mentions several of them.  She says, “I like the cooking area.  Or fashion design or interior design.  Anything creative or artsy, I love.” Courtney can bake a great peach cobbler from scratch, and thinks being a pastry chef might also be good.  She thinks a moment longer and adds, “I like working with kids like myself.  I could be a mentor.”  She loves to sew and design, and might like to work hard to qualify for a college fashion design program.  She has already made purses, pants and shirts, and she says she wants to improve her sewing skills.

In conversation, Courtney can be very direct and to the point.  She says about herself, “I am an ‘out there’ funny person.  I might be shy at first, but not when you get to know me.”  She adds, “I would like a family who is also ‘out there.’  Not afraid to do anything.  Not shy at all. That’s who I am.  I would like a family that is funny.  I love fun people.”

Courtney imagines what a perfect kind of Saturday would be like if she had an adoptive family— and they were planning some weekend fun.  She says, “We would want a combination of what everyone in the family would like to do.  As for me, I like shopping.  And it is weird, but I like shopping for school supplies.  I really enjoy that.”   She also likes to shop for fashions or fabrics to sew.   She adds, “I’m usually ‘on point’ when it comes to fashion. I know what looks good.  I help my friends and know what looks good on people.”

Courtney loves to read and write poetry.  She enjoys singing, and all types of music and dancing. She favors R & B, hip hop, and rap.  She attended a Baptist church when she was younger, and would go back to church if an adoptive family was willing.

Courtney says she will volunteer some time to make the world a better place.  She likes to watch old TV shows like Happy Days, and is attracted by the old days when life seemed simple.  She says, “That was a good time.  There was no madness, no violence.  I would like to change the world, even a little bit at a time.  I could make a difference.”

Courtney needs family support and guidance to give life a fresh new start.  She can even sometimes smile, as she waits for adoption.  Could you be a good match for Courtney?
