Antwan
Age: 16
Antwan is an interesting ninth grader with some untapped potential and he makes friends easily in school. He enjoys sports and music in school more than most of the academics but this past year he has started to enjoy learning. He likes science, and he is learning about waves, ocean waves and mechanical and electrical waves. He thinks his social studies class is interesting too, and he and his classmates have studied about terrorism and 911 and about the Kent State shootings relating to the Viet Nam War. He admires Barack Obama and likes to read about him.
Antwan is sometimes a deep thinker, and finds that the helping and entertaining professions are ones that interest him. He could see himself someday in the music business, show business, sports, or even police work as a career. At his foster home he enjoys church activities with the family, going to Boys and Girls Club activities, and going out to eat. If an adoptive home had some pets, he says, "They are very special. They mean a lot." His foster family had a dog and gerbils-the dog sadly disappeared, and it had been his favorite.
When Antwan was younger he dreamed about being on stage like Michael Jackson, dancing the moonwalk, and singing. He still admires the late Michael and all his talent, and loves to play the electric guitar and the bass guitar. For a while he played trombone in the school band as well. When Antwan catches up in school with grades and his studies, he wants to go to college some day. He gets some tutoring help already in math. Antwan likes to either play or watch football, soccer, and basketball. He is very fast on his feet and he handles the ball very well in soccer.
Antwan is in a foster home where he now feels comfortable. He has a foster mom, and a foster brother a couple of years younger and a little toddler foster sister who he looks out for. In the foster home where he is now, there is almost no fighting. Antwan seldom speaks or hears an angry word there and he likes it that way. He wants to be helpful to a family with chores, but also to join in the fun times.
Antwan has siblings and a maternal grandfather who he would like to keep in touch with, even after he is adopted. He dreams of an adoptive family where he can feel comfortable and safe with friends in his neighborhood, church, and community. How would Antwan, and his hopes and dreams, fit into your family plans?
