mariah

Age: 12

Mariah is a fourth grader who enjoys swimming, playing with dolls, crafts, and pets- puppies, kittens, bunnies, and goats. She lives in a country foster home, where she has lots of animals to take care of, but she can still get to the local library with her foster dad. On their last visit to the library she picked out a movie, Shrek, to take home and watch. She likes to use her imagination when she plays, and she has a good sense of humor, so a funny new-style fairy tale character like the monster Shrek- who falls in love with a funny princess- is just her style.

Mariah imagines becoming a vet someday, or some kind of a job that would keep her in touch with some furry friends. Right now her grades are in the mid-range in her specialized classes, but some untapped potential seems to be showing when she lets her guard down a bit- and relaxes with adults she can trust.

She enjoys kids her own age mostly in school and at church, where she attends with her foster family. She is also in a group called Pioneer Girls at their church, where she sings, makes crafts, and does indoor and outdoor group activities with other girls. Back at home she likes to sing along with Cyndi Lauper or Taylor Swift on the radio too, and her sweet singing voice is right in tune.

In her foster home she likes to go outside to play in the snow with her foster dad. She likes to go shopping or do crafts and make bead bracelets with her foster mom. She even made extra bracelets for gifts to pass out to friends at school.

She likes to play with the family's big yellow Lab rescue dog, Maggie. Sometimes Mariah will have Maggie do a trick and get an immediate biscuit reward, but sometimes she'll try to "trick" the dog, hiding the biscuit and making her wait expectantly for treat, but the big old gentle dog is very patient and calm, and a little prank like that doesn't seem to bother her a bit. Mariah also likes to go outside, even on snowy days, to make sure the outside pets, some chickens, two goats, and her rabbit, are warm and well. She gives them food and fresh water, talks to them, and gives her favorite rabbit a special hug.

Another recipient of Mariah's hugs is her well-worn little boy doll- who she calls Peeby. She pretends that he is "two years old and just learning to walk." She smiles and adds, "He's my best bud." She lifts him up to the piano and "helps him" strike a key. She can always count on Peeby.

Mariah has had many adjustments and changes so far in her young life. She has experienced disappointment and loss. She is learning much more about happy homes and how to live in one. Do you think your family might be just right for her? Call today and find more about adopting Mariah.
